Yorkshire Carvers
The work of Robert Thompson 'Mouseman' of Kilburn and that of the other Yorkshire Carvers is recognised beyond the Yorkshire boundaries and has a strong following. Many of the Yorkshire Carver cabinetmakers listed below were apprenticed to the Thompson workshop before leaving to run their own establishments, each carving a motif as their signature. Using oak and the simple lines of the Arts & Crafts ethos, the Yorkshire Carvers' furniture has broad appeal and sits well within a traditional or contemporary setting. Morphets achieved a UK auction record for Mouseman in 2021 with the sale of a fumed oak bureau at £36,000 hammer price (plus buyer's premium at 20%) and have sold a number of rare, early and commissioned pieces. Clients from Yorkshire, London and even as far away as Cornwall have chosen Morphets as the place to sell work by the Yorkshire Carvers.
