Furniture and Antiques

Colour, patination and proportions are the three key elements when judging antique furniture. Today's buyer looks for a statement piece which will sit just as well in a period setting as in a contemporary interior. Quality is key, as with anything, and the valuer will first check the integrity of the piece and by knowing the market trends, the desirability of your furniture. Taking all these factors into account the valuer will advise the likely realisation at auction and the most appropriate sale.

Period furniture is included in the Fine Art and antique sales, which are held quarterly, with the Home and Garden sales providing the opportunity to sell more modest pieces and good quality house furnishings.

The term antique covers a vast array of items and refers to, by definition, items of at least 100 years old which could originate from either the UK or beyond. Again, a valuer will identify and assess your item before suggesting a reserve and type of sale.
