A late 18th century Grand Tour fan, the monture of mother of pearl, gilded, with design to the gorge, both guards carved in sections, with a lady in costume, birds and possibly a flaming torch, the double paper leaf with good colour, featuring three sites of ruins, to the left the temple of Hercules in the Forum, Rome, to the right, The Temple of Vesta, and centrally, an unidentified ruin, separated by panels incorporating finely painted ovals containing classical figures, two birds to the top along with a vase and foliage, the whole bordered in purple with additional floral details encasing the vignettes, together with a good sturdy velvet covered fan box lined in ruby silk, with metal hinges and catches, guard approx. 27cm (Shipping category C)

The box is in very good condition. The fan needs extensive work, the leaf has sellotape covering some folds, and part of the guards. The monture lacks one gorge stick and another is detached but retained.
