C 1860/70’s, a good mother of pearl fan with extensive gilding, deep gorge and well carved sticks, the central gorge with a large oval in which three ladies and one gentleman down on his knee are portrayed, in perhaps 18th century dress, their silhouettes backed with thin mother of pearl, surrounding which the gorge sticks feature flower baskets within roundels, the paper leaf painted with eastern figures in elaborate costume, the turbanned gentleman to the right wearing a red cloak trimmed with ermine, the scene appearing to be a terrace with sumptuous drapes, a stone statue to the right leading to water on which swim swans, and to the left a water jet, all features signifying the wealth of the people present, the version contrasts with a rural scene with peasants and animals, the gorge with simple gilding, guard approx. 26.5 cm, the rivet set with a red stone, contained in a silk lined box covered in dark green velvet, the underneath bearing a Duvelleroy label ( 1 + box) (Shipping category C)
Repair to the upper guards at the shoulders. The leaf is rubbed on the folds and two are noted to be slightly split at the bottom of their folds.
