A wood fan, the monture carved and pierced, painted gold, c 1870’s, the black silk satin leaf with black machine lace to the top edge, the sticks continuing from the gorge to shaped tips, à la Sultane, and thus having a double guard on the left side, the verso is plain, guard approx. 24.5 cm; together with a wood brisé fan of the type produced in Austria in the 19th century, the guards polished, the recto painted with flowers and leaves, the verso with the words “Pa=zi=en-za è Sa=pi=enza ( meaning perhaps Patience and Wisdom?), guard approx. 23.5 cm (2) (Shipping category C)

The silk has split on two of the folds but is help in place by the format of sticks on the leaf.
