A WILLIAM IV SILVER CLARET JUG EDINBURGH 1837 FOR JAMES HOWDEN AND CO, of baluster form with repousse floral sprays, rocaille and c-scrolls to the body, scroll handle, circular foot and with hinged lid with cast bud finial, repousse mask spout, engraved to the frontal cartouche 'Presented to James Griehe Esquire, Branxholm Braes by 142 of his friends as testimonial of their high sense of his public usefulness and of his private worth, 7th May 1840', engraved above the foot 'J.G Chairman at the dinner given by The Duke of Baccleugh's tenantry to his grace Branxholm, 26th September 1839, approximate height 32cm, approximate weight 41.5oz, ivory exemption certificate no CP18M9C7
