A “Mouchoir” fan, an example of the scarce fans with leaf shaped as a square, like a handkerchief, the leaf of cream paper painted with a smiling monkey, clinging to bars, facing and pointing at a well-dressed gentleman in early 20th century suit and tails, wearing a monocle, who is clearly laughing at the monkey in his cage, both believing they are better than the other, the verse, by a known poet, in Italian, translating as the monkey telling the gentleman that without his fancy clothes, naked, he would be no better than him! Monture of wood dyed purple, verso plain, Overall height approx. 21 cm (Shipping category C)
