THOMPSON OF KILBURN 'MOUSEMAN', An English oak carving of a heavy horse, on a rectangular canted plinth, carved in relief with a mouse, possibly by Stan Dodds (1928-2012), 26cm wide x 22cm high

More Information

There are several lines running with the grain which have slightly opened - around the front left corner of the plinth, right hand hind quarters, right hand side of back, two short lines on the chest and on the front shoulder.
there is a knot at the top of the right hand fore leg. Small knot on far side of neck.
I can't tell if it has been scrubbed on the neck. Nearer to the mane is smoother and lighter and then the adzed finish begins. Almost as if the carver is showing the neck muscle more stretched as the head is lowered.
Lovely detail on the raised hoof, showing horse shoe.
