A LATE 17TH CENTURY JOINED OAK ENCLOSED CHEST inlaid with fruitwood and ebony, having a twin cushion panelled drawer with cherub mask and pendant scroll handles above a two door cupboard, the central octagonal bosses inlaid with star motifs with geometric moulding, split pilasters, the interior fitted with three long graduated drawers with iron loop handles, indented side panels, on bold turned and compressed bun feet, 101.5cm wide x 55cm deep x 105.5cm high
The internal drawers are probably later, certainly period timbers apart from a back board replaced with pine. Evidence of old woodworm damage. Internal side panels are carved and inlaid so presumably re-used from a contemporary piece. Some of the drawer rails look replaced. All this looks as if it has been made up, or partially, from old timbers/ Split to the surface, full width, some fading and areas where the polish is off. Two knocks on left angle and top corner of left door. No sign of 20th century work. Provenance: old family piece from country property passed down.
