AN EARLY 19TH CENTURY SAMPLER by Elizabeth Woodrup Aged 14 years 1813, worked in coloured silks, with text entitled 'On Youth', above a crown flanked by lion and unicorn, birds amongst pussy willow, baskets of flowers, fruiting tree, butterflies, birds, deer and hound, within a flory and counter flory and trellis border, 42.5cm x 49cm
Very fine worked on open mesh cloth. Some dark spots of discolouration to mesh here and there. Colours strong.
Mid right near border - a hole 0.5cm x 1cm.
Lower left beside border - 2 small holes.
Lower right near border - a hole 0.5cm x 0.75cm.
Mid lower edge - a hole amongst border and another small hole of left corner edge.
Presents well and is a delight.
